Sunday afternoon...

It's Sunday afternoon and I'm feeling a little jaded... we went to a 60th birthday party last night and Maggie (the birthday girl) and her husband, Mike put on a great party for us all with lovely food and even a disco afterwards. So having danced the night away, I'm still feeling a little 'weary' today. I'm supposed to be studying for final exams tomorrow so I'm trying to motivate myself - it's not working too well ... sigh.

All I really want to do is just lie on the sofa in the Snug and snooze quietly. With lots of cushions and warm, snuggly throws it's a good place to be on a rather grey, misty day.

My husband has brought in loads of firewood and has lit the woodburning stove so it would be perfect to snuggle down in front of it.... The dogs know that it's a great idea and have claimed their rightful places in the prime positions. Troy is a little miffed because she really prefers to be in the spot that Chelsea has claimed.... and Chelsea is wondering if perhaps there might be any toast and honey for tea...? No, they don't get that kind of food but it's the sort of thing that would be most appreciated right now. Well, it's what I'm thinking of anyway.

There's still room for my husband if he would like to join us ... just have to convince Troy that she needs to move so that he can actually have somewhere to put his feet.

The Snug is where we mostly hibernate for the colder months of the year - although it's not as light as the sitting room, it does have a really cosy ambience with all the beams and the fire. Lots of lamps placed around add more warm light to the atmosphere. We tend to shut the other end of the house down during the colder months. Gosh, doesn't that sound grand! It's not I promise you, but it is a practical solution to a much cooler part of the home.

Anyway, I hope you've all enjoyed your weekend as much as we have so far. But for now, I'm going to stretch out and shut my eyes for a quick nap. Hopefully I'll be able to then convince myself to get back to the books!

Warm wishes to you all! V xx

  1. What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon! It is still fairly early over here on this side of the pond -- I think we are about 6 hours behind you or so...

Your home is the very definition of cozy. I sometimes buy magazines that show photos of cabins and country homes - my favorite type of home by far. Your photos could easily be included in any of those magazines! People like me would look at the photos and say "Some day... maybe... how nice that would be...!!"

My suggestion for you is to take advantage of your beautiful home and have a grand nap in front of that fire!

    Take care.

  6. Dear Veronica, I removed my previous comment because of some English mistakes, sorry! Anyway, while I was reading your post, I really thought that the photos should be in a magazine (lol) as people said here. Enjoy the winter! I really hate this summer weather (35 Celsius degrees today)in this tropical country. Make up melts, impossible to have a nap or a good sleep without a 24 hours fan or air-conditioner. Well, keep on enjoying and reading ( I love reading in rainy days and in "rarely "cold days") Congratulations for the house and photos! They are presents for us!
    Best wishes,
    Rosana

  7. Omigoodness you have a cozy house. I love all the brick as well. I think brick and wood are two things that make a house warm and inviting. And I can almost see the spirits of all the people who lived there before you.

I hope you enjoyed your nap! :-)

  8. Hi, Veronica! Oh, that looks like just the room to spend a wintry Sunday in...sooo cosy!! Mind if I come and stretch out on your comfy sofa?--it does look inviting. Or could I stretch out next to the dogs? I love dogs! I'm very petite, small...You'll not notice I'm there--LOL! Glad you had fun dancing a night away--that does sound fun! Hope you are feeling rested again for a new week. Happy Days ((HUGS))

  9. As everyone else has said, it looks so cosy & inviting for a cold day. Dogs are very wise, & they know what is best! Where is Bear? Or is she known by another name?
I spent the whole day yesterday sleeping... not by choice.

  10. My dear friends - thanks to each and everyone of you for your kind, gracious comments about our little Snug... and yes, I did enjoy my nap thank you! Meggie, yes, sorry Bear is actually Troy but the names have become so interchangeable over the years that I forget that not everyone knows this!! :)

Russell, Jack, Maureen, Deedee, Rosana (lady in red), Jo, Tracy and Meggie - if you are ever over this way, we'd love you to drop by for a cup of tea here in the Snug...
At some time or another I have looked at the many beautiful images you have all posted of your homes and your day to day surroundings, and I feel the same way about your homes. I call my husband over to look and we talk about how lucky you are to live there... 'wouldn't it be nice...'. So thank you all once again, but I think we all have cosy places, special places within all our homes (and within us too!) that other people would love to be able to share. I think it's all about contrasts... don't you? With warm wishes to you V xx

  12. I don't know how I managed to miss this post - this warm and cosy (maybe even snuggly) post. It looks to me as though you have the perfect place for a Sunday nap - throws, fire and cushy couch. I believe that light is a highly overrated feature when it comes to being cosy on a winter's day - your place is perfect!

  14. The snug looks very snug - see you at Pondside's picnic. If you are bringing the whisky I'll bring wine. Red or white preferred?
