'Tis the season...

Actually, it's well into the season. You might be forgiven for wondering if this little creature is some form of particularly well-moustached mouse ...

...when in fact it is just a little Dunnock collecting 'Bear hair' (from my dear dog, Bear) in order to do a little home renovation/refurbishing..

Just how these little things manage to collect so much into their little beaks is a mystery - or maybe a miracle

But I love to watch them wandering around the garden collecting straw, grasses or fur to do their mid-season work. How industrious they are and how 'house proud' they are !

Still, a bird has to know just when enough is enough and head back with the collection for re-lining the nest.

I hope you'r enjoying a sunshine filled day. With warm wishes, Vxx

  3. Hi Veronica,
Oh how cute these pictures are. I love the fact that you were able to capture these for us. I wonder if Mrs. Birdie sent the Mr. out with instructions, 'I liked that 'Bear' hair we used last year. See if you can find more of that stuff'.
It's always so lovely hearing from you and reading your wonderful comments. You can come sit in my gazebo anytime, I would love to come and sit in your 'snug' with you as well.
    Hugs,
    June

  5. It's amazing that you could get those photos of the house proud little ones. We had dinner outside this evening and we noted the increase in birdsong all around us. Ten years ago the province sprayed for Gypsy Moth and it has taken this long for the birds and butterflies to come back.

  6. Such a cute bird! It's wonderful how they use whatever they can find in their environment to build their nests!

  7. Veronica, HI! Thanks for all your thoughts, hugs and love on my recent post. I am doing fine, just trying to keep up right now! But I am smiling, so things can't be all that bad. :-) These pictures are just fantastic, I had to laugh at the first one, trying to decide what it was before I scrolled down. How fantastic that you could capture this little guy on camera!! It made me think of a bird I saw in our yard a couple of weeks ago that had its beak so stuffed with little catepillars, I thought it could not get one more in there before it choked itself. But it did indeed stop just one more time to pick one up before flying off to the nest. The babies must have had a feast!! take care, and thanks so much again for your emotional support. It means the world to me!! have a good weekend, Debby

  8. That little bird is amazing. It is wonderful how animals take care of their young in nature. I recently learnt that rabbits cover their babies with their fur--not sure if they pluck themselves or it is from natural shedding.
